The Gift of Learning

I have a friend here whose company I treasure. I look forward to meeting with her weekly for language tutoring. If I have a question about something I’ve observed culturally, she is a wealth of knowledge. We read together, she asks me comprehension questions, she tells me Bible stories, and we pray together. In exchange for lessons, we pay her a small salary, but it is not enough to cover her expenses, including that of her children’s schooling. We all want to learn; in the life of Frederick Douglass it meant everything and sending a child to school is a small way we can make a big difference.

The cost for tuition, books, and uniforms amounts to about $50 per month per child.

If you are interested in supporting one of my friend’s children, read on! (I recognize that many of you already give generously to support our ministry here, but I offer this opportunity in case you are also looking to give to something like this.)

Deborah

Deborah is 16 years old. She is going into eighth grade. She wants to be a designer. She helps her mother wash clothes and make food. Math is her favorite subject. She is a Sunday school teacher at her church for children ages 4-12.

Eyasu

Eyasu is 8 and is starting second grade. He likes English and math and studies in his free time. He wants to be a preacher and soccer player when he grows up.

Eeyu

Eeyu is 13 years old and is going into sixth grade. He likes to play soccer. His favorite book of the Bible is Job, because he served God in trouble.

Caleb

Caleb is 12 and is going into fourth grade. He likes to play soccer and likes to make people laugh. He wants to be an engineer.

If you would like to donate to Betty’s children’s school fees, you can make tax-deductible donations to our account at CMF here.

Please contact me at AllisonGiles@cmfi.org if you decide to give so I can keep track of these special gifts and direct them to the children’s educations.
